Brian Cashman has referred to Gerritt Cole as his "white whale," constantly eluding him as Moby Dick constantly eludes Captain Ahab. The Yankees initially drafted Cole, but he went to UCLA. Two years ago, the Yankees tried to trade for Cole, but were the runners-up to the Houston Astros. Well, the white whale finally has Pinstripes and an interlocking NY.
Cole signed with the Yankees for nine years, $324 million: $35 million per year. It's expensive as it can be, but Cole has been the most dominating pitcher in baseball the last couple of years. If Cole approximates his performance of the last couple of years and Severino is healthy enough to come close to what he did in 2018, I just don't now how you beat this team.
