You're right.

There are some very highly rated hitters in this years group. I think, given the pitching is on the weak side in this draft, they should go for the best hitter on the board, regardless of position. I almost hate saying that because I'm a big believer in pitching, it's hard to beat the best teams without it. Usually, the top tier teams have excellent pitching which will most often stifle even strong lineups.

Who's your pick?

Mayo calls Jones the best player in the draft, and also calls second baseman Jung the best college hitter in the draft. Based on that only, I am leaning toward Jung, although Jones would be a worthy pick.

I just read that Elias is in the market for SP with team control of at least two years. Who isn't, but we've got kids of value to deal. Success at that could change the draft strategy, although the trade deadline is too late. He'd have to move earlier. But if we have a full and settled rotation, maybe they could take a flyer on a HS shortstop. One with a generational ceiling.

I also read that Showalter has a woodie for Mancini. That trade could work for everybody, including Trey. Not sure what they have, and they're trying to be competitive(1st place now), so I doubt it's part of the pitching conversation. Not big league ready ones.
