The Orioles' pitching, starting and relievers, is about 500% better than I thought it would be.It's kept them respectable.
I have been pondering that for a few weeks now and the biggest difference in my opinion are the catchers. Not because they can hit because they can't.....But how many pitches have you seen this year that have gotten behind the catcher. Between having catchers that are better framers and are able to keep the ball in play in front of them is far and above what we had last year. How many times did we watch Severino waved at pitches instead of moving to the bal with his body. Time after time he would put opposing players in scoring position which only puts greater pressure on the pitching staff. I think the O's pitchers have more confidence in pitching down in the zone because they feel the catching staff can keep the ball in play which only adds to their confidence and effectiveness. I could be way off on this but it's just a thought.
