Reading a book about that team. Saw some interesting things about players.
The Orioles put Jim Palmer on the expansion list after the 1968 season. He'd had 2 years of arm trouble and they were preparing to create the Royals and Seattle I believe.Lucky they didn't lose him; he had 8 20-game seasons after that.

Maybe a couple of you remember Jim Hardin. Had one great year in 1968 but then arm trouble, tailed off and retired in 1972.Some years later he had gotten pilot's license. Took off one day and plane stalled after a couple of minutes, going out of control. He made a radical turn to miss a ballpark where a lot of kids were playing baseball but crashed into a parking lot.Hardin and two others were killed. He was 43.

Catcher Clay Dalrymple played w/Orioles from 1969-71, Damn if I remember him being there.

The Orioles will never have a dominant run like they did in the late 60's and 70's again. Enjoy the memories. I didn't know that abut Hardin. Terrible tragedy. I remember Dalrymple, I am sure I have his baseball card stored away along with many others from that era. I haven't looked at them in a long, long time.

I don't remember the Hardin crash. I did watch Darren Holmes pitch though, which should count for something in the wreck department.

I barely remember more than squirts from a lot of the players back then. The heroic replays are burned in.

Elias is doing what he can to set up a dynastic run. No guarantees, but I see where he's going.

In counties where Donald Trump received at least 70 percent of the vote, the virus has killed about 47 out of every 100,000 people since the end of June. In counties where Trump won less than 32 percent of the vote, the number is about 10 out of 100,000.

I never knew what happened to Hardin...how he died. I thought he had arm trouble the way he faded out.Very good pitcher for that 1 year, though.

I believe the 1969-71 O's held the ML record for highest number of wins over a 3-year span till recently. They also led the all-time series over the M FY till the 80's when they had so many terrible teams. Now I;m sure the Yankees lead us by a hundred games or so.

Coming into '69 they had a rotation of Cuellar, McNally, Phoebus and Hardin, who had won 17 games as a rookie in 1968. Add Palmer who suddenly recovers and becomes the greatest pitcher in Baseball over the next decade. I figured with that rotation they mite not lose a game. And behind them is one of the best farm systems in the Game.Hell, I figured they mite be able to assemble a 12-man rotation. But stuff happens, unfortunately.

I liked Elias' strategy. But they're liable to change rules to have a lottery of the bottom-dwellers for that first pick. The Orioles, under Elias, really gamed the system by running that strategic losing thing into the ground. They PO'd a lot of people. Not me though; I knew what they were doing. If they can improve on the pitching depth in the organization, they might have the best farm system in their history this year and next.

Don't bet your life on it.

The problem with developing pitching is that it's reliant upon pitching prospects. A notorious bunch of pussies.
