He didn't really, any more than tennis commentator called Venus Williams a gorilla, even though everyone claims it happened. He was talking about his visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and he sloppily pronounced Negro. It may have sounded like a slur to the professionally offended who seek that sort of thing, but it seems that that's not what he actually said. These ar ethe same people who screamed racism when a DC official claimed the city's expenditures were "niggardly." If you're looking for something to offend you, you will find it.
