The Nats offered to make him the highest paid player of all time and he acted like it was an insult. We won tonight without him. Let's go Nats.

The average annual value was lower than about a dozen players, including David Price, and the ownership instability was the biggest factor. I still think hte new owners should vhe been given a shot at signing him.

OK, fuck Soto might be a little strong, but the fact remains that he was offered the largest ever contract and it wasn't good enough.

Don't believe that Boras bullshit. The AAV was lower because the contract went to his late 30's. Highest ever is highest ever, it was a tremendous offer. Which of the 29 other owners would Boras turn down their money? Does he really want us to believe that he cares about the next Nats owner? If so, get an opt out added to the contract.

Bottom line is the Lerners made a hell of an offer and were forced to move on because Soto picked an agent who wanted him to wait to walk when he's a free agent.

We got some MLB ready guys in return, when the new owner signs a couple free agents we'll be Wild Card contenders in a year or two.

For three reasons:

1. $440 million is a lot of money, but it was spread over 15 years. The average annual value was below $30 million, low for a player of Soto's caliber in today's market. It was below the AAV of David Price!

2. The offer was HEAVILY backloaded. It would maintain something around his current $17 million level for the first few years, but backload $40+ million salaries into the final years. Soto and Boras wanted it less backloaded.

3. The most important reason, according to Boras -- the ownership instability. He might have been more willing to sign if he knew who would be signing the checks. Apparently, this was major concern.

I think the new owners, whoever they may be, should have been given the opportunity to re-sign him. I hope that when he comes up on free agency, the new owners will try to bring him back.

Nonetheless, the Nationals got a HAUL.
