My team was not playing, so I watched Means make the Sox look foolish. Relied a lot on a changeup. But his version curved. His variety reminded me of our Bieber.
He had nice backup. Rio Ruiz was lovely in defense. Of particular quality was a diving stop in the late (7th?) inning behind first base.
Scottt was pretty good in relief. If Means had not already deflated them, I wonder how well his fastball would have worked.
Valdez closed adequately. Nice to see a closer use guile rather than overpowering stuff.
Was interested in the Sox reliever Sawamura. He came directly from Japan to relieving for the Sox. Did well, but was not immaculate. As well as I can recall Japanese throwers, he was similarly adept at mixing his stuff, but threw a pretty good fastball.
Hope you guys do well. Showed class today. My team not predicted to even eke a playoff slot. As usual, we have a lot of quality (?) newbies. May we all exceed predictions.
