Ozuna prob beats him out for MVP. But so what. Kid started the season with covid false tests, etc, and proceeded to kick ass from there. Did Rendon ever have the 60 games that Soto (or Turner) had ?! This award is another notch on the belt of a 21 y.o. kid who never stops getting better in the field or at the plate.

Wish The Nats could extend Soto but he's a Boras guy so it's a longshot to get a deal done now.

The 2020 season has had its' share of casualties. And Soto is one of them.

The national press attention for Soto this season has been tame in comparison to the GaGa Fest they're throwing for Fernando Tatis Jr this season, who's on a playoff team. But his #'s are inferior to Soto's, and he's got better protection around him in the lineup than Soto. If the Nats were playoff bound, Juan would get more consideration for MVP. Even if Ozuna beats him out, the voting results would be much closer.

Juan was 100% classy during the PG interview yesterday. Singled out Kevin Long in gratitude for what he's accomplished.

If these were "normal times", and after the season he's had, cant imagine Boras would START at nothing less than $30m per year/14 years minimum for an extension.

Great to see Soto pick right up where he left off. Great to see the season Turner had too. Hopefully the MASN case will get resolved so that the Nats can get Soto an offer that will beat Trout's deal.

The official Super Two cutoff for this winter hasn’t yet been established, but it’s expected that Nationals outfielder Juan Soto will surpass it, Todd Dybas of NBC Sports Washington reports. That should put the 22-year-old slugger in line for a lucrative pay raise over the minimal amount he earned in 2020, and it could perhaps lead to a record-setting salary for a first-time arbitration-eligible player.

As a reminder, Super Two status gives a player who has more than two but fewer than three years’ service time a chance to go to arbitration four times instead of the typical three. Soto has amassed two years and 134 service time during what has been a brilliant career so far.

Since he broke into the majors in 2018, Soto has slashed an otherworldly .295/.415/.557 with 69 home runs and 23 stolen bases in 1,349 plate appearances, and he helped lead the Nationals to a World Series in 2019. The Nationals didn’t come close to defending their championship this year, but Soto did all he could to keep the team on top. As a 22-year-old, he was likely the best hitter in baseball, leading the NL in all three triple-slash categories (.351/.490/.695) with 13 HRs and six steals over 196 PA. Soto also totaled far more walks (53, including 12 intentional passes) than strikeouts (28).

While it’s unclear exactly how the arbitration process will unfold on the heels of a 60-game season, MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz projects Soto will rake in anywhere from $4.5MM to $8.5MM. Even at the high end, though, Soto would fall short of the record $11.5MM salary then-first-time arb-eligible player Cody Bellinger received in 2018.

Having to pay the best young hitter in baseball a quarter of what he's worth is a good problem to have.

The Nats need to sign him and Turner.

Progressives lack compassion and tolerance. Their self-aggrandizement is all that matters.

In a normal year yes, but the players are not going to sign beyond their arb years for anything less than market rate from 2019 and there is no way that the team should be making long term high dollar deals right now.

Great piece.

https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/31133599/welcome-juan-soto-mlb

As of now with their current contracts they're about $100 million under the 2022 salary cap. Boras knows this for damn sure.

Would like to believe they can extend both Turner and Soto but that may not be likely. If they cant, they cant. Just get Soto and count your blessings.

It's not up to Boras. It's up to Juan.

Soto projects to be the kind of ballplayer that some teams have never had in their entire history. Pay him whatever it takes.
