Maybe they should bring back Asdrubal Cabrera in case Kieboom and Garcia need more seasoning. He wouldn't cost a lot and he leaves them free to go after Arenado or Bryant next year if Kieboom doesn't start to play like hte player they believe he can be. Or sign someone like Jake Lamb.

I was way off with the idea of offering players for Arenado, the Rockies just wanted his salary off the books. The team willing to take on the biggest chunk of his contract was the team that got him.

Rizzo and The Cards mustve had dialogue about Arenado. Even after Colorado ate part of his contract, STL is still on the hook for about $25mm a year. Guess a non-deferred deal of that size scared off The Nats.

Here it is: LHP Austin Gomber, IF Elehuris Montero, RHP Tony Locey, IF Mateo Gil, RHP Jake Sommers, and $50 million.

OTOH, I'm willing to guess that St. Louis relieves some of the financial burden by trading Matt Carpenter. No place for him at 3B with Arenado, no place for him at 1B with Goldschmidt. They just sent five young players to the Rockies. They'll probably try to deal Carpenter for some young talent.

Rizz signs Jordy Mercer. Nats could have 3 ex-Pirate infielders on the roster this season (Mercer, Bell, Harrison). Let's go Washington NatPirateCubs.

Like this signing because it lets Garcia, 20, grow in the minors. Mercer can play any IF position. Lots of versatility, and another IF option if Kieboom doesnt work out.

Not the most exciting signing but follows the clear pattern of picking up guys on one year deals who played better than their career average in 2019 and then worse in 2020. Lots of potential for a cheap price.

Jeremy Jeffress signed to minor league. Solid, low risk move. Dude is a former All Star who's had only 1 lousy season (2018), rebounded nicely last year.
