Some interesting notes from around MLB:

1) Dusty Baker has been extended through 2021, Nats beat writers are contrasting Baker's status to Martinez who won the World Series and has still not been extended beyond the end of the season. Of course sports is all about what have you done for me lately and as of now Baker's team has three wins and the Nats have one. While being interviewed about the Astros job Baker mentioned that he really liked being in DC and was disappointed to be let go, him and me both, we won a WS but there is no doubt that Baker is the better manager.

2) Anthony Rendon hit a HR in his first AB with the Angels. Meanwhile Strasburg sits out with tingly fingers. Maybe we picked the wrong guy.

3) Big news last night was the Dodgers Joe Kelley hit Alex Bregman with a pitch then threw at Carlos Correa's head, then called Correa a bitch after Kelley struck him out. Benches cleared but no punches were thrown. The Astros better just get it over with and start charging mounds, the beanings won't stop until they start fighting back.

Who knows what would have happened if Baker stayed. Would he have stayed the course by not panicking at 19-31 like Martinez did, which alot of the players (Zimm being 1) noticed and admired? We'll never know. Personally I wouldve stayed with Baker and not fired him. The Lerners will reup Davey at the right time, they know they will be hammered by the fans if Davey goes elsewhere. The Nats beat writers always need something to write about to get people worked up (Rizzo is on his last year, too, I believe). Martinez is in his 50's and he had heart surgery last year. He talked about how his health/life is in serious jeopardy if he catches Covid. Love the guy. If Davey opted out this season I would 100% understand and support him.

Fans have always been on Stras' case about injuries, but since he moved to pitch strictly from the Stretch, which cuts down on arm/neck/back stress, and started working out like a fiend, the guy's been somewhat healthier. A year ago no one wouldve bet on Stras going 200+ IP in '19, and then doing what he did in the WS was sick. Since great pitching is harder to find than great position players, I believe (hope) they made the right choice (Kieboom is ready for 3b supposedly. No pitcher in the Nats system can ever touch Stras). Rendon supposedly was not crazy about the Dc area, and was not going to take deferred $$ from The Lerners.....speaking of ex-Nats, our boy Bryce after 3 games is hitting .222 with 3 K's out of 9 AB's. He'll never change. Dude is as much sizzle as he is steak. He will never adjust his hitting approach. It's all about Bryce.

Moving into the '21 season, I suspect the Lerners may even be more conservative with payroll due to Covid. Surely the Nats beat writers will cry about that, too.
