The DC lottery sports betting site went live today. Bit of a shit show. Only the web browser version works, no apps yet. You need to upload your drivers license or some other ID, I'm sure that's safe. You need to load some sort of mobile tracking system on your phone. The odds suck. Oh, and there are almost no sports. So far just the NASCAR race, Euro soccer, and darts. They even screwed up the race odds but got those fixed.

This is the lottery app that Jack Evans slammed through because his law firm represented the local shell company that won the license in a no bid contract. They are known for crappy odds that only a crack head would accept. Eventually they'll have paper betting forms in local liquor stores and other lottery outlets.

Depending on whether the virus keeps going or dies out there will be betting at the Cap One Center, Nats Park, and Audi Field in the near future, plus some bars. The sportsbook at Nats Park is planned to be a huge addition to the ballpark. Should be a good way to spend a rain delay, making prop bets on out of town games.

The Nats announced a sports book opening up in the area where the old team store used to be between the Centerfield gate and Garage B. This is a much smaller site than the planned sports book that they hope to build near the first base steps. Probably just a temporary site until they get the big one built. The team expects to have the mobile app for betting available inside the ballpark and in the surrounding area by opening day. I´m not much of a gambler but I could definitely see myself placing some bets while waiting out a rain delay.

Gambling is bad for sports.

I'm not sure about that, it has always existed so legalizing it and taking a cut of the profits could be good for sports. Gambling is bad for the local economy because it takes money from the working class and gives it to out of state corporations, that I'd agree with.

In any case, having the first ballpark sportsbook could be great for the Nats to try to catch up with the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs in revenue.

The more gambling, the greater the effort to cheat. More gambling may bring more revenue, but it also brings more corruption of the sport.

I disagree, the impact players make at least ten times as much per season as they could make fixing games. Plus, legalized gambling makes it harder to hide cheating. Too many stats being tracked, a big variation in the betting line would get noticed.

Maybe the umps could fix a game but they are being tracked too and legal betting is harder to fix than illegal.
