You can spell World Champions with a Curly W!

Finally!! World Series in Washington, and Nats won it. It has been a long wait. Congrats to all who stuck with this team thru the past few years.

It has been a great ride here at BPG. Good luck and God speed to you all.

Homer

Kudos to Kasten and The Lerners for setting the franchise to Rebuild mode way back when. In order to draft high enough to get guys like Rendon and Strassy. Damn some of those sh1tty teams made our eyeballs bleed but in the long run it was worth it.

Kudos too to anyone in this area who was around in '71 and had to endure losing the team. And had to think of that over the last 34 years whenever you were at a ballgame, or watched one on tv.

And kudos as well to those who grew up without a baseball team here.

Way too many experiences and memories that were taken away. For all of us.

But as Davey said, sometimes the bumpiest of roads have the sweetest endings.

Our work here, on this forum, is done.
From 2004 and long before, the task and the hope was for baseball to exist here, again. Then, of course, respectability was the aim for our team.
From MLB's soon to be contracted embarrassment in Montreal and San Juan to World Series victory, was a journey that took less than half the time that we had no baseball at all.
We now live in a place where the curly W is seen on car bumpers, store windows and on fully half the hats in the area. The Nationals are poised to become, in fact may already have become, our region's most popular sports team, followed by the Caps and displacing the Redskins and their socially, culturally and politically suicidal owner.
I grew up on baseball at Griffith Stadium, lost the joy of the game twice, to Minnesota and Texas. My father told great tales about Walter Johnson, Goose Goslin and a host of others who actually won Pennants and a World Series. I never fully appreciated the possibilities until this year. Nationals baseball will be a permanent part of the personal history of my children and grandchildren. Their baseball legacy will not be "First in war, First in Peace...,etc".
This is OUR team and they are Champions of the World! No Rendon, sad, it's Ok, though. His replacement will have Washington on his jersey.
Let's go Nats!

There was a recent poll of Washington sports fans. I saw it reported at Ballpark Digest. They asked which team DC area fans liked best and followed most. The Nationals were #1, followed by the Capitals.

Not bad for "just a football town."
