They're fighting a war; we're not. We need to do what it takes to win.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/nov/14/the-war-with-china-is-largely-an-economic-one/

Quote
The United States has been at war with China since at least 1947-49, when Chiang Kai-shek, his extended family and the Chinese Nationalist regime were air and boatlifted from mainland China to Taiwan, this after Mao Zedong’s Communist forces prevailed against Chiang’s Nationalists. During the Korean War (1950-53), large scale military combat between U.S. and Chinese forces actually took place; however, since then the war has largely been an economic one, and the Chinese have beaten the United States badly.

Make no mistake about it, it is truly a war — although many fail to realize it. Here are just a few of the basic reasons the Chinese have beaten us and continue to win the war:

• Americans are incredibly naive and fail to perceive the gradual Chinese takeover of key world economic sectors — the standard Chinese joke that we are “fat, lazy and stupid” has turned into a sad reality. When we are attacked, it’s always a surprise.

• The Chinese have always stolen our legally protected technology and information from us. While it may have started with books, movies and CDs, it has now moved into all of our information and technology sectors. This will soon overpower efforts to control it — if it hasn’t already.

• The Chinese spy network is by far the largest in the world, with millions of “overseas Chinese”; many deeply embedded in traditional spy “covers” and many others at foreign universities. This, as Chinese travelers are routinely tasked and debriefed as a condition of their travel and/or continued overseas status. The typical motivation is their family in China.

China is starting to win the war here in our industry. they started building American style caskets in 2005 but are just now really catching on here.....trump put a 10% tariff on their caskets coming in here back on September 10th... if no deal is worked out he has threatened another 25% tariff at the first of the year....they don't make inexpensive caskets...... There is no much difference in their middle of the road and their upper end casket prices. Units made here that we buy for $625 you can buy there for $325, but shipping in a 64 unit container cost $100 each shipping this time of year, about $80 shipping each after Christmas......The upper end stuff that we pay $1200 for they sell for $425.....

there is really only one Chinese company that has the same or better quality than those made here. I've considered buying them because no one in this area has them, but I just can't bring myself to buy them... I drive American made cars and trucks from GM and Ford we're losing more and more sales on those middle of the road and upper end units because other companies do offer lesser quality caskets made in china......

Nope they ran for the safe zone.....they ain;t coming back........If Trump had colluded with the Russians and Mueller had anything on trump, some of them would have posted a drive by post gloating about it, but that's not going to happen either...

They are much better off not being challenged and not having the fake news pointed out to them.i'll betcha they are just as angry now as they were when they posted here.....,just not at me......

Yes this is an old article, but it breaks down the type of products that we are buying from China......trump should tell the liberals that China is polluting the planet at an alarming rate and that buying products made there from us companies is the same thing as supporting slave labor.....he should explain that the dumbocrat party has always been the party of racism and slavery and that they need to wash the stink of racism/slavery off of their hands by not buying products made in china....by buying those products they are supporting the destruction of the planet and supporting slave labor....

Only thing that I know of in our business that we have to buy from china is cloth. I make casket insert panels and our cloth supplier has to buy the cloth from china because the last place in the USA that made that kinda cloth that was reasonable closed last year.....the quality of this cloth made in china is much lower than the cloth that was made here. I use less rosetan cloth than other colors and still have a roll of rosetan. I can tell the difference easily. the Chinese cloth is not as soft and doesn't look as good either...

The tariffs have really hurt the Chinese caskets coming in here. The best Chinese manufacturer had been trying to sell us caskets for about a year. He had picked up new distributors all over the country but now the tariffs have made the prices so close to American made caskets that it's not worth the trouble to buy Chinese....You have to order the Chinese caskets in container loads of 64 or 66 at a time, but the wait after placing the order is 8 weeks, longer in November and December....Now only the upper end hardwoods and upper end metal units are considerably cheaper than American made and there's not that many of those sold anymore....

Sanction the regime and its leaders. Prohibit American companies from sharing business or technological information with the regime or any entity affiliated with it.

You know I don't like tariffs, but it may also be that we're approaching it from the wrong end. Tariffs are taxes. What if we taxed exports to China, not just imports?
