What do you do when your 1st round insists on going straight to the majors? Trade him for birthday boy Bob Sebra (1986-87)! In hindsight a rather ballsy demand since BJ Surhoff, Will Clark, Bobby Witt, Barry Larkin and Bobby Bonds were drafted earlier. Happy Birthday also to Andy Tracy (2000-01) and Craig Caskey (1973, and enough of a "Who?" so his MLB career ended with "...March 30, 1975: Released by the St. Louis Cardinals. (Date given is approximate. Exact date is uncertain)".

But the Expos did trade that LHP for Stan Papi, who turned into ...

On August 28, 1989 the Expos were 71-60 and traded a PTBNL to acquire PH help in the form of Jim 'Pig-Pen' Dwyer. They'd go on to finish 81-81. The BTBNL? Birthday boy and AAAA player Alonzo Powell (Class of 1987)!

Happy Birthday to Stan 'Bahnsen Burner'! Montreal Expo class of 1977-81 and 1968 AL ROY. Who I'll offer up as evidence that nothing really changes. Arguments about who should win post season awards and how some voters vote the way they do are always interesting.
Bahnsen was not unanimous back in 1968. 17 votes for a 17 win season with a 2.05 ERA!
Del Unser got 3 votes for his .230 BA, .560 OPS but he did out HR Bahnsen 1 to 0.

Happy Birthday to Tom Gorman (1981-82) and from the inaugural 1969 team Adolfo 'The Panamanian Flash' Phillips!

Phillip's coolest stat is from his 1967 season. The top 10 NL in IBB that year includes: McCovey, Staub, Aaron, Allen, Cepeda and Clemente. Stargell was number 2 w/25. Phillips had 20 effen' 9! Over in the AL, Killebrew and Freehan led with 15, Triple Crowner Yaz had 11.

Unknown how many came after this game:

29 is a top 30 season in MLB history - get Bond's seasons off the list and Adolfo's 1967 is in the top 20.

Happy Birthday to three lefties: Bill Lee (1979-82), the late John Milner (1981-82) and Zane Smith (1989-90) and one righty: Einar Diaz (2004)!

... and only slightly related to Montreal Expo milestones - 12/28/58: Baltimore Colts 23, New York Giants 17!
