The Covid and the Damage Done

The Covid and the Damage Done - 12/01/2021 19:10

The good news is that MLB plans for a full 162 game season this year. They are also planning on a full spring training.

The bad news is that the Nats have postponed ticket sales for spring training.

Hopefully single game sales will be available for Nats Park this summer as an increasing number of people are either vaccinated or decide they DGAF about the Corona Virus and want to watch a game.

Supposedly we wont see full nationwide vaccination access until late Summer. And with Biden in the WH, doubt we'll be able to go to the ballpark - or even take a dump - without government consent. Hope i'm wrong.

Now that the big tech companies are running this country I'll probably be banned from leaving the house.

DC has said no fans at Nats Park as of now. Really sux because Philly and most other teams are allowing a limited number of fans. The city might change their mind, but meanwhile the team can't begin the ticket distribution process. The Blue Jays are starting their season at their spring training ballpark, I've seen suggestions that the Nats could do the same. I'd like to see the Nats start the season in Fredericksburg so they can allow in a few thousand fans. It has to be more cost effective to open a small ballpark than Nats Park with a minimal staff for a small number of fans.

The District doesn't give a damn about local businesses that could use the traffic coming into the city. They know that the Federal government will always bail them out.

Perhaps the District can explain why they're prohibiting fans at Nats game, yet similarly lefty-whacko California - the state hit THE worst by the pandemic - is allowing fans into ballparks and other outdoor events this season.

5,000 fans approved for Nats Park in April. Count me in.

That's good news. This morning I got an email about getting the vaccine this Thursday. So I'm counting my fat ass in for April too.

What's worse than Covid is cancer, I saw on WNFF yesterday that Baseball is Life recently passed away, then a few hours later I saw that a good friend from college died this weekend. That's two college buddies and an old soccer teammate in a month. Cancer sucks.

Tough age we're in. Sorry about your loss. When I was a kid I never understood why my parents checked out the Obituary section of the paper every day. Now I get it.

3 of my siblings are retired. Must suck to work your ass off all day and look forward to retirement, only to spend it in semi-isolation.

Yep, it's a drag getting old. I got my Covid appointment and even scheduled my overdue colonoscopy appointment because that's what got my friend, he was undiagnosed.

This is why I'm going to retire at 65. Yeah I could get alot more $$ from Social Security if I hold off retiring until 67 or 70, but who knows how much more time I have to live.

One Nationals player has tested positive, several more were exposed to him and are being quarantined.

From Byron Kerr:

Quote
What’s interesting is #Nats have called up a catcher, Outfielder, Infielder and relief pitcher so far. So it’s not obvious which position group it is where the positive test occurred. Maybe just where they sat on the plane.

Good for the Nats is that no one is hit too hard. Hopefully they all come back healthy.

So basically 10 day isolation for the guy who tested positive and 7 days for the 4 dudes who were near him. Or something like that.

See the Texas Rangers tell Biden FU and allow full fan capacity this season. See Texas Rangers fans celebrate. See the pee trickle down angry Biden's leg in response.

Kyle Schwarber, Josh Harrison, Jon Lester, and Alex Avila are "unavailable". The assumption is that these are the four who tested positive although they could be among the five who came in close contact with someone who is positive. Not a worst case scenario, now we just need them to recover quickly so they can rejoin the team on the road trip.

Half of the Vancouver Canucks have covid. Italy and other parts of Europe are getting hammered by a new wave. This crap is going to go on all season.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 05/04/2021 16:02

Not if they had gotten these guys vaccinated. Pro sports drives a lot of jobs outside of the actual athletes, they should have been in the front of the line to get their shots.

I was talking to a friend of mine who went to opening day, he said that the Nats are strictly enforcing the mask rule, you are expected to put your mask back on between sips of beer. The trick to get around it is to buy peanuts so that you can be eating the whole time. I'm going to try to get tickets for a few games in May, I definitely want to get back to boo Harper. I used to always go to the Os games but I don't care about beating them as much as I used to, probably because they always seem to beat us.

Nats Captain Obvious was at the home opener and is now in bad shape with Covid. Good luck to him, scary situation. I'll be very relieved to get my second shot this week. Herd immunity can't kick in fast enough.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 13/04/2021 11:39

The Nats set up Vax appointments in Missouri since they can't get them in DC. Less than 24 hours later the FDA halted use of the Johnson and Johnson shots. Hopefully our guys are fine.

Reports are that Captain Obvious is recovering.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 02/05/2021 20:48

Reports on Twitter are that fans are resisting the strict enforcement of the mask policy at Nats Park. Some guy got escorted out by four cops, typical Nats over controlling tendency. They've got everyone spaced out and outdoors, the masks do nothing to stop the virus spreading though the air, let people take them off at their seats.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 07/05/2021 00:33

First game of the year and the mask policy is a joke. They want you to put on a mask between every sip of beer and every bite of food. Fuck that shit. I'm going next week but if I get hassled again I'm done for the year.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 07/05/2021 00:54

OK, that was seventeen minutes ago, it was my one thousandth post, so maybe fuck Nats Park is kind of harsh. But Goddammit, a cotton mask isn't stopping any Covid.

After the Phillies series Nats Park will go to 50% capacity, by June 11 it could be full capacity.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 19/05/2021 22:59

At the same time that the team announces that the ballpark is opening up another player tested positive and another one has been exposed. Positive cases are down something like 95% so I don't know how you get Covid anymore even if you aren't vaccinated. Probably spending time with unsavory characters while on the road trip.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 28/07/2021 22:31

Three outbreaks in one season. I said back in March that the team should have got those guys vaccinated down in Florida. Then they went with the J&J shots instead of the good ones.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 29/07/2021 16:09

Turner, Hudson, Avila, and Voth go to the COVID-related IL. Gomes and Rainey activated. Luis Garcia and Andres Machado were called up from Rochester.

Re: The Covid and the Damage Done - 30/07/2021 10:30

The team got the J&J shots, which have a high percent of break through cases. They should look into getting the better ones for next year.
