OT: Hail to the Division Champion Redskins - 13/09/2020 17:20

New coach, new front office, new team name, lots of new players. Not a great start. But it's early.

Three sacks in one drive by our defense, but still down 10-0, we're going to need some takeaways to avoid getting blown out.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 13/09/2020 18:25

Nice! The requested takeaway puts the Skins back to only ten down heading into the half.

ESPN excerpt on Ron Rivera -- this guy is now my hero big time:

He's had to deal with not only a pandemic and social justice issues, but also a name change, accusations of sexual harassment in the organization from previous years and his own cancer diagnosis. Rivera missed practice on Tuesday for his first chemotherapy and proton treatment. He needs to have five treatments a week for seven weeks.

Rivera is our only hope to turn this team around. Great game by Kerrigan. Heck of a start to the season.

i couldnt watch the game -- what were your impressions of the defense, and chase young ?

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 13/09/2020 23:13

Chase Young is huge. Surrounded by very large men he towered over them. He had a great game but so did the whole defensive line, that one unit plus Kerrigan won the game for us. The offense was barely adequate. The secondary got a couple picks. mostly due to pressure from the wrecking crew of a line.

some guy on espn this morning is making it sound like wentz choked and lost the game for philly. look, i didnt watch the game, but to me if a guy is sacked 8x and gets hit a bunch, too, all eyes should be focused on his OL.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 14/09/2020 21:34

The Eagles offense was fine until they started losing linemen, once they were down to some guy who had never played before the Redskins dominated.

Man what a bad football team.

Another game the Redskins were out of early.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 05/10/2020 14:46

I missed the fourth quarter yesterday but yeah, tough to watch when we get behind. Some flashes of good plays on offense but the current rankings have us at the very bottom of the league. Probably need to bring in Alex Smith.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 06/10/2020 14:29

Tough spot for Haskins. Only 1 yr of college ball but dumbass Snyder wanted him to be drafted high in 1st round. Learning his 2nd offense already, and with covid/limited preseason had little if any time to implement the new offense with teammates before Game 1. Hope the kid does not become the next victim of Snyder voodoo. A month into the season and Rivera is already talking about what has to happen to bench him. IMHO that's a conversation he should hold with the guy in private, if at all, especially only 4 games in. Unless he's seen enough and thinks the backup guy he brought with him is the answer. Which leads to the next question: does Rivera have the power to bench Haskins? Because Dan aka He Who Must Be Obeyed does not like his prized QB's getting Eff'd with by coaches (btw haskins & the 2019 nfl qb draft class has been a dud so far with exception of gardner minshew, drafted in 6th round).

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 07/10/2020 16:01

Announcement today that Haskins is benched for Allen. ESPN excerpt:

Allen started 12 games for Carolina in 2019 and finished with the second-worst Total QBR (38.3) among quarterbacks with at least eight starts. Allen threw 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions last season. The Panthers won his first four starts but went 1-7 the rest of the way, including a loss to Washington in Rivera's final game with Carolina.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 08/10/2020 01:02

I'd rather see Smith than Allen but clearly Rivera wants a guy who can run his offense.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 08/10/2020 14:56

Talk about dropping the hammer: how many 15th overall picks get demoted from starter to all the way down to the bottom of the depth chart. and in his case, ahead of a guy who hasnt played in forever.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 11/10/2020 19:21

Another season down the toilet. Maybe another top draft pick will help but it's painful to watch. Very few reasons to hope that we are building anything.

Late 4Q: Rams up 20. Seems like 40.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 25/10/2020 18:56

Finally a good game. I thought we were playoff bound after week one, the five straight losses shook my faith, but after today we'll be a half game out of having a home playoff game.

Son of a bitch, I keep thinking that we are not a doormat but we lose again. Better be one hell of a draft pick.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 08/12/2020 11:38

Man that was real football -- low scoring game with 2 defenses dominating. Old school. Loved it. Lots of drops by receivers on both sides but oh well. Alex Smith with a sliced leg and blood dripping out and he doesn't give a sh!t about it. Dude is one tough muthah.

Comments about Chase Young by Boswell from his Q&A's last month:

Most of the super-high-pick edge rushers have big impact immediately. That's not a good sign for Young...I suspect I've spent far more time analyzing every snap of Chase Young's season than most of the experts you'll see or hear commenting...My assumption is that Young will steadily get better and may even eventually be as good as his boosters already think he is. But for now, my goal is to "get it right," not "get it flashiest" --which means I don't think he's a star or a bust, just a good and VERY promising player.

Promoting Martinez to get fired. Claiming Rivera was delusional in October to believe WFT could be good or win the East. And now this nonsense about Chase Young.

DC sports fans need Boswell to write pissy columns now about the Wiz and Caps.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 14/12/2020 14:38

In a single game, a defensive lineman for Washington causes a fumble (that led to a WFT score), returns another fumble for a TD, gets a a sack, has 6 tackles, and makes some pass deflections, including that big one in the 4Q........trying to remember the last time one of our lineman had a dominating game like that. The 80's? Never?

Dexter Manley in the playoff games against Dallas and Chicago come to mind.

Chase Young single handedly won that game for us, a dominating performance, although our entire defensive line is a strong unit.

I just hope our offense returns next week, they only scored six points and three of those were off a turnover in field goal range. I know Haskins took a lot of heat for throwing the late pick but I thought he was throwing the ball with more confidence than Smith. The main thing is that we need Gibson back. We are too thin at the skill positions to be missing one of our top guys.

Looked at the stats for a couple games: the SB win over Miami (Manley strip sack), the Dallas game when Dexter KO'd Danny White, the Chicago game playoff game in '88. Couldn't find any lineman that matches what CY did. I even looked at players who weren't lineman: Sean Taylor's 2 INT and caused fumble against GB was great, so too was Darrell Green's return for a TD against Chicago in the '88 playoff game...but still cant find a game where any defender dominated like CY.

Read somewhere that the wind chill factor for that '88 playoff game in Chicago was minus 20! Forgot about that!!

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 15/12/2020 16:00

ok, maybe I stand corrected. No sacks for Dexter then, but he KO'd Danny White in that NFC Championship game, and he deflected that Hogeboom pass that Grant returned for a TD. Maybe not MORE dominant than what CY did, but surely it's up there, especially in lieu of the significance of the game.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 15/12/2020 16:15

A couple pretty legendary games from Manley, the "no Danny no" game to beat the hated Cowboys. The one I'll always remember is the one where Ditka said that Manley had the brain of a grapefruit and claimed that he was only a pass rusher, that he couldn't stop the run, so by the 4th quarter Dexter was screaming at the Bears sideline "run it at me", they did and he stuffed them.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 04/01/2021 01:10

Ideal case for tonight jump off to a big early lead, then rest Smith, McLaurin, and Gibson. Should be an easy win with the Eagles injuries. But who ever knows with the Redskins.
Posted By: PowerBoater69

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 04/01/2021 04:38

That went differently than I expected. But now we face Tom Brady in round one. We beat the Steelers, we can beat the Bucs.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 09/01/2021 13:26

WFT Redskins are facing an offense theyve never faced this season. In 8 of their 16 games TB has scored 30+ points, and I believe they've scored 40+ points in 4 games (Redskins have scored 30+ only ONCE this season). TB has an offensive line that's given up the 2nd fewest sacks in NFL. And then you throw in Antonio Brown, Gronk, Evans if he's healthy, and the GOAT who's still ranked #10 in QB rating despite being ancient as hell.

Cant fall behind early. Defense and special teams need to make some big plays tonite for us to have a chance.

Taylor Heinicke. Go get em dude.

Heinicke played on hell of a game. That diving TD was legendary. Got to stay healthy though. Time for the next guy up to get us two touchdowns. Some defense would be nice.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 10/01/2021 14:24

Maybe they're looking at drafting a QB, probably in the 1st round. But whoever they draft better watch out for Heinecke. And hopefully Snyder will let the grown ups in the draft room decide on that QB.

Theyve got all their picks in every round in the upcoming draft + an additional 3rd round pick. They've done a great job with the defense. Time to get a couple of playmakers at WR, RB, build the OL, etc. Can we please say G'bye to Steven Sims?

Posted By: PowerBoater69

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 10/01/2021 15:13

Sims would be fine as a #3 receiver, but not #2. So many holes to fill but we're getting closer. Need a QB, a star receiver, line backers, and offensive line depth. The good thing is that for the first time in a long time we have cap space and like you said we have our draft picks.

Heineke was legendary last night but he's too short to be the starter and defenses would figure him out. He's a hell of a change of pace QB though. I'd think about fake kick ideas with him as the place holder.

Great point about Snyder, the Haskins thing set us back a year. Every time we think he's stepped back he pulls a dumb move. Maybe this time he learned.

Re: OT: Hail to the Redskins - 10/01/2021 22:51

What a memorable season for our QB's, right? Alex Smith returns, whodathunk that would ever happen? And then Heinecke last night -- LEGENDARY, you're right. Trying to think of the last time a Redskins QB made a great athletic play like that on a TD. Maybe RG3 when he ran 80-90 yards for a TD in that home game ?

Figure that since Guice is gone, they'll look for a RB in the draft or FA.
