Will they trade...?
Mancini?
Odor?
Santander?
Bullpen pieces?-which ones?
What are your thoughts?
I don't think they'll do anything of significance. They won't trade Trey because they won't get that much unless he's part of a package. Wish they'd get rid of Odor but Hyde's infatuated w/him.And the pen is why they're in contention in the first place.

Trey has the mutual consent clause for next year. That might work with Showalter.
Doesn't make much sense to speculate. It depends what's on offer. I'm pretty sure we're past the blow it up years. We could spare like Vespi, who might look pretty spiffy out there.

What exact day and hour is the deadline?

Re: Orioles Trade Predictions? - 30/07/2022 18:34
Tues, Aug 2 at 6 pm
I wouldn't trade Vespi; they need another arm out there.Anyhow, what w/you get for him, since he has only about 5-6 innings in the Show? A couple of 19 yr.-olds from DR? We're past that.
Of course if we can get McClanahan or Kershaw for him, then that's different of course.

Draft '22 notwithstanding, I'm not sure we're overloaded with minor league starting pitching.

I've been wondering if Santander would bring back a better deal than Mancini. Switch hitter with power and excellent defense.

And a longer period under contract. But I wouldn't move him w/o a big return. The guy I'd move before Santander is Mullins.
Bowie CF Cowser (.341) looks like he's getting ready. Send him to Norfolk soon and see.
They could make quite a package w/Mullins and one of our bevy of good-hitting minors infielders plus Mancini if they move early enough. But only for good pitching.

I agree with all of that.

They did, a couple of hours ago.

So they get a pitcher who needs Tommy John surgery? He also will be subject to the rule 5 draft if not added to the 40 man roster. Scratching my head here.

They must have high hopes for him.

Just the kind of trade I didn't want them to make. I'da kept him I think. On the other hand, for 2 months of Trey, it's not a bad return I guess. And how REALLY good has Mancini been this year? Glad he's getting a chance with a good team.
Bringing up YDiaz is a great idea too.Play the guy and see what he's got. If he's no good, you've answered a question that's been hanging for 5 yrs and also getting a dead weight off the 40-man roster. He's done as much as he'll do in the minors.Maybe they'll get rid of McKenna now or at least send him down.(Also Odor)Frankly, I'd pencil Diaz in the starting lineup the rest of the year.
And BTW, maybe they can give Stewart a final look later when he's healthy.Hit well for Norfolk and could be your DH.

Lopez goes to Minnesota for 4 young pitchers.

We traded proven talent for a bunch of question marks. Only time will tell if these were good deals or bad deals.

Executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias, speaking about the Mancini trade on Monday, said, “I have to tether my decisions to the outlook and the probabilities of this year,” outlining that while the Orioles have a chance at a Wild Card spot, “it it is not a probability that we're going to win a Wild Card.”
Why not dumb ass!?

Mancini and Lopez weren't crucial to our wildcard chances this year anyway. They were decent, but surplus.

They are very much right in the race and it’s Aug 3 with 58 games left.
After last night's second straight win in Texas, by an 8-2 score, the Orioles are 53-51 and are just 1 1/2 games out of the last American League playoff spot. The O's lost two key players and have responded with two big wins over Texas.

Feller made a good point on FB. Six new minor league players are going to require some space being made. I don't know if that means promotions up the chain, or releases of low level bums. Probably the latter.

Maybe some of both.

For one thing, too many teams to climb over. Fangraphs gave them a 5 percent chance at the playoffs. 2023 is more likely. Elias is a realist.

Activated OF Brett Phillips. He will wear No. 66.
Optioned OF Yusniel Diaz to Triple-A Norfolk after yesterday’s game.

They'll probably just DFA Diaz give him away for nothing.

There is nothing in Diaz's history that indicates he can stay healthy for an entire season. The jewel in the Machado trade has turned out to be no more than costume jewelry.

I think the only thing we have left from that trade, other than Diaz, is Kremer, who still comes with a question mark.
