Kyle Bradish RHP

TORONTO - The Orioles placed outfielder Anthony Santander and reliever Keegan Akin on the restricted list today and selected the contracts of Kyle Stowers and Rico Garcia as replacement players.

No reasons were stated for Santander and Akin being away from the club, but unvaccinated players aren’t allowed to enter Canada. Santander and Akin were put on the COVID-19 injured list last summer.

Stowers didn't put up much of a fight.

Not sure why the second pitch to him was a strike.

Not sure why Bradish is in the big leagues.

How about Akin back in the rotation and Bradish to the pen?

Trey has a hand injury from that hbp last night. They say it's not broken, but he will miss a little time.

Did Akin get shelled last time?

I don't remember but he probably did. He's been pitching excellent out of the pen though. Something to try anyway, Bradish looks like he's not going to be very good.

No argument. Everybody sucks. Bradish didn't in the minors.

Last night his command was awful. If he can't improve that, he's going to be a short termer.

Let him keep going. Same w/Zimmerman. Not like we're smothered in viable alternatives.Yet.

But makes me think more and more about Mancini and Santander.

* Former Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph, working for Blue Jays radio during the four-game series in Toronto, watched Kyle Stowers’ first at-bat and experienced flashbacks.

Joseph said the outfield prospect reminds him of former teammate Nick Markakis.

Like a carbon copy at the plate.

“When I first saw him making his major league debut, and the head-on view, I was getting some scary Markakis vibes in terms of the way his elbows were moving, and just the motion of the bat pre-pitch. And then the way he loaded, and his hover, were identical to me,” Joseph said.

“Out of nowhere I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, that’s Markakis with blonde hair.' And the build looks similar. I don’t know why, but it just flashed ‘Markakis’ in my head. And man, a really good Oriole, so if he’s anywhere close to Markakis, I think it will be a really good thing for the Orioles.”

The Orioles are returning Stowers and reliever Rico Garcia to Triple-A Norfolk and putting outfielder Anthony Santander and reliever Keegan Akin on the active roster for tonight’s game against the Rays at Camden Yards.

The s/think about letting Akin be the opener and see if he builds up some quality innings.
