Strikeouts for prospects well up across the minors. And it's not just luck

Time will tell, but I think letting DD go and hiring Elias will turn out to be a good move. I think it was time to let Buck go also.

Good manager but one who had seen his time come and go. I don't see Hyde staying around too long, either.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 24/06/2019 19:37

I think the players liked playing for Buck and generally played hard for him. But I still think he was a poor in-game strategist.

Piss poor. I kept wondering if there was a bench coach.

G-rod and Harvey blew them away tonight.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 03/07/2019 01:54

Kremer pitched a solid 7 innings tonight. No runs and just 3 hits against.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 07/07/2019 04:18

Kremer is one of the guys from the Machado deal.

DL Hall nearly lost a leg in that Futures game yesterday.

Whoa. His job is to walk people.

Read he was throwing 98.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 08/07/2019 18:18

Probably, since he strikes out like two an inning. Big leaguers will just sit on the walks, if he doesn't find the plate. We've seen that few dozen times.

Great game by Baumann last night.

Wow, huh! One of my favorite kids. Bowie is loading up for the stretch run. Bad news is, they're raiding Norfolk's turds to do it. Mullins is about kaput.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 12/07/2019 18:04

Mullins has been a big disappointment. I'm wondering about Smith jr. too.

Perhaps the demotion affected his head. No telling what being demoted to another level might do to him. If Smith doesn't hit he has to go because as an outfielder he totally sucks.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 13/07/2019 11:43

Sedlock, DL Hall, Blaine Knight, all threw well.

They've caught up w/Smith. He has to adjust.Njunez's homer was impressive. Totally fooled by change-up and out on 1 foot, he still hit it out.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 13/07/2019 11:57

Trolling the trash heap is rarely profitable.

Jake Zebron represented the Eastern Shore pretty spiffy too last night. 19 years old in the GCL doing pretty well.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 13/07/2019 12:10

They're gonna have to troll even more w/Bundy having knee trouble.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 14/07/2019 20:48

Hanifee threw a complete game shutout for Fredrick today. Needed just 91 pitches.

Lowther pitched 6.2 innings and only gave up one hit and one run. He struck out 8 and walked none.

u-Snail blasted 3 doubles too.

Grayrod had a weird one. He didn't get hit much, but he walked the whole string section.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 15/07/2019 21:59

Yeah, system nuggets. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think Jomar's ramping it back up too. A lot of the mid-level prospects are hitting .270 plus. A few of those lurking in every lineup can score runs.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 16/07/2019 03:48

They seem to be stretching the starting pitchers out down there. 7,8 9 innings now not uncommon.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 16/07/2019 05:57

They should be doing that.

Another excellent outing by Wells. Rizer was 5-5 today.

Sedlock threw 5 no hit innings.

Litscher, Prizina and Zimmerman were very good too.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 23/07/2019 11:42

You'll see some of these Bowie kids in Baltimore next year.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 23/07/2019 11:49

Maybe next week. eek I'm kind of seeing some light down there. Bowie is suddenly murderously good. Fred has a few. Delmarva is killing it. The GCL team is doing well. We'll draft top 3 again next year. That's how you have to do it, if you're mid-market.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 25/07/2019 08:02

Delmarva snuck this guy into their rotation now. He's been lights out this year. And I mean lights out, like he blocks the sun. Big ol' boy. Stauffer.

There are a few of these mutts lurking in our system. Really good results guys who were sitting in Sarasota. Looks like this one is done with his short season time.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 01/08/2019 06:15

Another banner night for guys not named Akin, who sucks. Conroy, Litscher, and Zebron with shutouts. Knight with a nice outing, and Wells excellent again.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 01/08/2019 14:34

Are Conroy, Zebron abd Litscher a new wave?

Akin needs C and C or he'll never be anything.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 01/08/2019 16:49

Kind of like wave C, by my count. Akin, DL Hall and GRod are Wave A, with maybe some of the Bowie guys. Wave B, you have Knight, Lowther, Bauman, Zimmerman. Wave D is the draft this year. Unproven, unheard of, but pretty good out of the gate. Wave E, DSL guys named Jesus, plus DSL guys not named Jesus. Wave D/E is next year's draft, unnamed but forming over the west coast.

Guys like Fenter and Sedlock should fill out a bullpen eventually too.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 01/08/2019 20:05

I hope Sedlock starts.Hall has to get some consistent control and command or he's nothing, either. But he has time. Can't understand why Blaine Knight was so great in low A and totally collapsed at Frederick. Did pitch well last nite though.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 02/08/2019 10:01

Hall controlled stuff yesterday. 10K:2BB. Magee and Fenter pretty good too. Today, Rom, Baumann and Zimmerman go. Every day's a carnival.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 03/08/2019 13:36

From Thursday's game:

The team’s No. 3 prospect looked like an ace Thursday, working six innings of three-hit, one-run ball while striking out 10 and picking up the win. Hall is now 4-4 with a 3.36 ERA with the Keys, and he’s fanned 111 batters in 75 innings (13.3 per 9) while allowing an opponents’ average of .193.

Them's numbers!

Move him up.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 03/08/2019 14:59

He's still only a college sophomore. Let him rise as fast as his bubbles. We had a couple of days of minor league pitchers really tearing it up. Cooled a little last night. Baumann's mother not even taking his calls. Some of the three inning guys did really well.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 03/08/2019 17:57

I think they'll leave him at Frederick this year.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 04/08/2019 00:51

Sedlock, Grayrod and all, sucked. I think some of them are running on fumes now.

He and Gunnar both.

I can't wait for the short season pitchers to start sorting themselves out. A bunch of them have been really good.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 16/08/2019 22:24

These pitchers of article are all Douquette draftees. However, I note that the pitching coaches at Frederick, Delmarva and Aberdeen are all new-as is the overall pitching coordinator (from Astros). That may be significant. I always felt that the Orioles farm system was hurt by poor coaching and you couldn't blame its failures so much on poor drafting. You don't go 15 years w/o producing a good starting pitcher because of poor drafting only.A blindfolded moron throwing at a dartboard would have hit on one good talent during that time.

This is just about all low minors, and next year will start telling the tale. Baumann and Hall w/face double A for a full season-possibly Rodriguez too for a bit.Wells w/get a shot at the team in Spring Training. We'll know more in 2020.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 16/08/2019 23:37

They aren't rushing their top pitching prospects. That's why we have been seeing bums like Eshelman, Brooks, and Strailey, etc.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 17/08/2019 15:03

Why did Grayrod throw only 3 innings?
Posted By: carolina

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 17/08/2019 16:20

That's what I was wondering. He was pitching really well.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 17/08/2019 17:48

They relieved him w/another starter. Maybe they needed to get several guys some work.

They're really pampering this kid, innings-wise.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 18/08/2019 01:55

I wondered if they had a 5 run inning, and he had to sit through it. Kremer got called up to AAA, and got his brains beaten in. Lowther was okay. Magee and Wilson were lights out. Wilson struck out 11 guys in 6 innings, 0 BB. Bitchin' pitchin'
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 18/08/2019 13:02

Saw a note that said they intended to limit his innings in that game. He's ok. Wilson mite become our next phenom the way he's throwing.

I didn't see line but I imagine he was wild.Akin struggles and seems to be almost good at times but then slips back and gets rocked. They are right not to bring him up though.

Kremer starts for Norfolk tonight. He got whipped pretty good in his first start. Hopefully he'll come around today.

Baumann's the one I have real hope for. The rest are gravy if any come through.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 22/08/2019 18:29

There are a hell of a lot of them to choose from. At worst, this bullpen debacle should get cleaned up.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 23/08/2019 19:22

Double-A Bowie’s Zac Lowther has been named the left-handed starter on the Eastern League’s postseason All-Star team.
Lowther is 13-7 with a 2.71 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 136 innings over his 24 starts with the Baysox. He leads the league in wins (13) and is also ranked among the leaders in strikeouts (second), innings pitched (third), batting average against (.198, fourth), ERA (fifth), winning percentage (.650, sixth) and WHIP (1.14, seventh).

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 27/08/2019 16:24

Most low minors teams are leading their league in ERA or close. You rarely see a kid hit hard in any of the games.

Fenter went 5 dominating innings. Lowther was also good tonight. Knight continues to suck.

Rom threw 5 no hit innings.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 29/08/2019 11:32

He had a nice year for a 19 year old at Delmarva. sez here. 116 Ks in 90 innings. 32 walks.

So many pitching nuggets. It set the new regime up for this year's draft. They could take best players over best pitchers, which was the right path this year. By the time they got to serious pitching, they appear to have struck gold in rounds 20-30 too.
Posted By: carolina

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 29/08/2019 12:27

I'm in favor of adding more pitching. In the unlikely event you have too much good young pitching, they make great trade chips.
Posted By: mikezpen

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 29/08/2019 18:35

I'd go w/pitching next year, too. Maybe not w/THE no. 1 pick, particularly if it's some sure-fire superstar. I worry about the risk. But go heavy w/the other high picks.

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 30/08/2019 01:42

G-Rod killed 'em with 6 no hit innings. Rutschman continues to suck.
Posted By: BaseBawl

Re: O's minor league pitchers blowin' 'em away - 30/08/2019 09:53

Delmarva might sweep the playoffs, even with a non-hitting catcher. The Hammer, Baumann and Akin had nice nights too.
